Every time we head out on the water, we’re not just observing dolphins—we’re collecting data that helps protect our coastal ecosystem.
As a volunteer with The Dolphin Project, you become part of an ongoing research effort focused on understanding and conserving coastal bottlenose dolphins.
What Volunteers Do
Volunteers play an important role in supporting our research, including:
Assisting with boat-based surveys
Photographing dorsal fins for identification
Recording data during sightings
Supporting outreach and education efforts
No prior experience is required
Who This Is For
Volunteering with The Dolphin Project is best suited for individuals who are interested in ongoing research and conservation.
This is not a one-time experience or tour. Our work relies on consistency, attention to detail, and a shared commitment to protecting dolphin populations over time.
Requirements
Volunteers must be 16 years or older *
Participation in boat-based surveys is limited to those 16 years or older
Active membership required
Completion of required training
Willingness to support ongoing research efforts
These requirements help ensure the safety of our team and the integrity of the data we collect.
Volunteers ages 16-17 may participate in training with a parent or guardian present.
A small fuel contribution ($25 per survey, excluding skippers) helps support vessel costs and ongoing fieldwork.
